This provincial two-door cabinet from China's northwest Gansu province is typical of the area's cabinet design during the late 19th century but the paneled front and overall form references styles from the Song dynasty thousands of years earlier. The doors pivot on external carved wooden hinges. The stout legs are sometimes referred to as leopard legs. Traces of the original floral paintings that decorated most of the front panels remain.
