This large glazed jar was hand crafted in Northern China over a century ago. Masterfully crafted, the jar is patterned in high relief featuring medallion portraits of blooming chrysanthemums and trimmed around the rim with bead-like motifs. Chrysanthemums are an emblem of autumn and a symbol of longevity - a motif echoed in the pattern of "shou" characters along the rim, meaning longevity. A rich brown glaze adds a layer of gloss to highlight the relief work.

The base of this vessel has been drilled to allow for drainage.
