This pair of monumental Fu-Lions, also known as shizi, once would have flanked the entrance to a Qing-dynasty home in China’s Shanxi province. One has a pearl under its foot, and the other has a lion cub. Shizi were believed to be powerful protectors, and the artisan who hand-carved these fu dogs imbued each with a remarkable sense of life and energy. Carved from solid limestone, the sculptures have developed rich character over time, yet retain exquisite detail.

Due to antique restorations, these figures are not considered frost safe.
