One might easily confuse this pair of 19th century Chinese chairs as a variation of the English ladderback chair. Created without nails or screws, they exemplify the masterful art of Chinese mortise and tenon joinery. The elegant geometry of the back splat is unusual for Chinese chairs of this era. We are particularly keen on the way the chairs' original black lacquer has aged so gracefully.
