This pair of elegant 19th-century elm wood chairs embody Ming-dynasty design with simple form yet complex construction. The chairs are an unusual blend of traditional tall yoke-back chairs and square low back armchairs, and each bears a ruyi symbol carved into the back splat, symbolizing knowledge. The ends of the top rails turn gently upwards and the arms are strongly curved - characteristics that emphasized the high status of the official for whom the chairs were originally made.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
