This pair of 19th-century Chinese black-lacquered chairs are carved with ornate, red-lacquered aprons and stepped backs ending in a simple, elegant scroll. The round medallions carved into the chair backs are lacquered and gilded, depicting Buddhist symbols of prosperity and longevity.
