Bearing the hand of a local craftsman in late 19th or early 20th century China, this bench shares the rustic simplicity and respect for natural materials found in early American furniture making. Crafted in the Shanxi region of China, this bench exemplifies the art and science of traditional Chinese furniture making. Held together without screws or pins, this bench was crafted with complex joinery and stretcher-supported legs.
Without excess decoration, this piece emphasizes the form & function of everyday furniture. A testament to the durability and strength of traditional joinery, the bench is extremely sturdy after more than 100 years of use. Its' simplicity and rich character make this bench sculptural and timeless.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
