Dated to the early 20th century, this low daybed features a woven rattan top and four cabriole legs that flare outwards with an elegant flourish. The frame is crafted of northern elm (yumu) using mortise-and-tenon joinery and darkened by layers of rich dark brown lacquer. Known as "ta," this style of small, low-lying daybed was used throughout the courtyard home as a portable surface for reclining, playing games, and gathering for food and drink.
