Traditionally, a low table such as this would have been used as a daybed, providing not only a place to sleep but also a space to drink tea, play a game, or share an intimate moment. Built in the mid-19th century, this elmwood table was likely commissioned by a wealthy homeowner in China's Shanxi province. The table's simple form is balanced by humpback stretchers and charismatic spandrels, hand-carved to resemble billowing clouds. The original top was replaced by one of crushed bamboo, providing a firm, subtly textured surface, making it ideal as a coffee table or low console.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
