With deceptively simple design, this narrow table would have been favored by a well-to-do Qing-dynasty family for its fine material and well-executed curves, arched like the sweep of a calligraphy brushstroke. Constructed of fine lindenwood with mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques, this 19th-century waisted altar table rests on graceful cabriole legs stabilized by giant arm braces. Each leg ends in unusual ball feet, wrapped in the ribbon-like curve of the leg. Carefully selected as a source of beauty and creative inspiration, this altar table would have originally been used as a display table for fine vases and precious objects. With clean lines and refined form, this narrow table is perfectly suited as a console table in a hallway or living room.
