This steel console table by artist Jim Rose forges a connection between Shaker minimalism and the simplified lines and austere aesthetic of Ming-dynasty furniture. The culmination of years of studying the vernacular history of furniture design, this table's timeless form draws a continuous link between the past and the present.

Rose balances function and form in this console table fitted with six drawers and a low shelf. The table was handcrafted of found steel and finished with a rich patina that evokes the sleek look of lacquered wood. We love Rose's use of reclaimed industrial materials, particularly his transformation of railroad tie washers into drawer pulls. Reminiscent of ancient jade bi discs, the circular pulls balance the otherwise angular design and add a touch of weathered texture.
