This 19th-century altar coffer with everted ends is made striking by a delicately carved apron featuring two scaly dragons dancing amid swirling clouds. The table would have originally been much lower to the ground, to be used beside a kang bed in a woman's sleeping quarters. Our carpenters, skilled in traditional methods, have elongated the legs to make the console more functional for the modern home.
