Popularized during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), tall display tables such as this were used to display precious objects, serve tea, or elevate burning incense. This example dates to the mid-19th century and features three drawers and two doors that open to a lower compartment. The drawers are punctuated by elegant brass drop handles secured with chrysanthemum-form escutcheons. A black lacquer finish coats the exterior with a subtle sheen and richly aged texture. Wonderful as a nightstand or side table, this display table blends effortlessly into modern and traditional interiors alike.
