Petite Scholars' Stand with Marble Top

Crafted of huali rosewood, the top of this small table stand has been inset with a beautiful panel of white marble with dark occlusions. Minimally decorated, the low stand has thin humpback stretchers and square-corner legs that bend inwards with pleasing, smooth continuity. Likely used for burning incense, the stand's refined design reflects the Qing-dynasty literati's taste for fine materials and balanced proportions.
