The most precious or significant Chinese artworks were generally displayed on beautiful wooden stands. The stands themselves, were works of art but not widely appreciated at the time. Today, collectors recognize them in their own right. This early 19th century stand was created from a select specimen of elm wood and exemplifies the way a skilled woodworker was able to reveal its natural grain and beauty by carving it according to its inherent nature. Traces of its original polychrome finish remain and add a layer of wonderful patina.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
