Expertly constructed of northern elmwood, this early 20th-century ice chest from Tianjin is an exceptional find. Unusual for its fine exterior, this chest would have once belonged to a wealthy Qing-dynasty family or merchant. The chest is lined with sheet metal and fitted with two wooden shelves for ample storage. The cabinet opens from both the top and a small front panel, allowing for easy access to ice and goods stored below. A relic of a bygone era, this exquisite ice chest is wonderful as a storied side table or console.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
