Yoruba Style Figurative Stool

Carved in a classic Yoruba form, this figurative stool is unusual for its highly patterned painted surface. Using traditional techniques, a single tree trunk was carved into a column, then taken in further until the form of a kneeling woman appeared. Bearing a child on her back, she supports the circular seat, representing the foundational support that women provide the community.
