This tapered three-drawer chest from the mid-19th century likely originated as a maker's stool, used as both a seat and a tool chest. Stools of this kind were frequently used by traveling barbers and carried from place to place for roadside haircuts. Today, the provincial cabinet is ideal as a side table or night stand, showcasing the rich coloring and expressive grain of northern elm (yumu).
