Constructed using mortise-and-tenon joinery, this early 20th century everyday stool from China's Hebei province has a relaxed presence and balanced form. Three round legs support a flat seat that has been cut to the silhouette of a butterfly, a common symbol of joy and happiness. The stool's darkened surface has become beautifully weathered from a century of use, revealing the warm browns of Chinese elmwood along the legs and interlocking stretchers.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
