This 19th century table from Northern China with a flanked top is hand carved with side panels each depicting one of four different blossoms, to represent the seasons, and eight spandrels, each with a dragon in the round, symbolic of strength and luck. The legs end in gently carved base stretchers. Its classical proportions give an air of lightness. A mark on the top surface indicates that it was likely used for incense in a traditional Chinese home.
