This 19th century monumental table is from Yùnchéng in Shanxi Province. It features eight carved dragons, which have traditionally been a symbol of power and good luck. The table's impressive top is crafted from a large-scale solid elmwood timber. It is likely this table lived much of its life against the back wall of a large hall or temple, where it served as a platform for censers, offerings, vases and candle holders.
