Low Bamboo Cracked Ice Chest

It's very unusual to find an early 20th century cabinet made of bamboo like this one. Each of the chest's panels is created with miniature cracked ice lattice, or "binglei," a popular 17th century Chinese decorative motif admired for its asymmetry. Creating furniture from bamboo was a traditional Chinese art form in itself, requiring carpenters with very specific skills, talents, and training.
