This early 20th century Tibetan painted cabinet would have originally been used atop a kang or platform bed, used as a table and storage chest. The low cabinet has a simple rectangular design with short legs, inset paneled sides, and a slightly overhung top. Each of the front panels is hand-painted with a cartouche of pink and blue peony blossoms set against a golden yellow background. The two center panels slide open to reveal a large interior compartment. The cabinet frame is decorated with red lacquer and a painted trailing vine motif, now faded from years of use.
