This petite lacquered chest of drawers was originally used in a 19th-century Chinese pharmacy to organize and store herbal medicines. The square-corner cabinet is constructed with ten shallow drawers, each divided into six small interior compartments. Each drawer has a teardrop-shaped pull and several have additional nails and iron repairs. A dark red-brown lacquer finish coats the exterior, richly aged and well-worn from almost two centuries of use.
