This grand black lacquer table beautifully exemplifies the unique forms of classical Chinese furniture. Constructed in the mid-19th century using traditional joinery methods, the table features a square floating-panel top, a curved waisted apron, and short bowed legs at each corner. The apron is carved on each side with a floral motif shaped to resemble an auspicious ruyi and trimmed with a beaded edge that flows elegantly down each leg. A smooth black lacquer finish cloaks the exterior, now gently faded at the corners from over a century of use.
