This contemporary bookcase is modeled after the tall freestanding shelves used in traditional scholars' studios during the Qing dynasty. Such shelves were used to display a collection of books, artworks and painted scrolls, considered symbols of the scholar's status and intellect.

Constructed with clean lines and open sides, this tall bookcase has a minimalist design, decorated only with simple humpback stretchers and brass pulls etched with ruyi symbols of longevity. Darkened to a black-brown finish, the timeless shelf fits seamlessly into a modern interior.
