This petite 19th-century stool from China's Shanxi province charms with its top-heavy form and fantastic, wabi-sabi texture. As evidenced by the many blade marks on the top, the stool originally doubled as a small chopping block for fruits and vegetables.

Like a mushroom pushing up from the forest floor, the stool has a low stature and a thick, round top, now beautifully weathered from years of use. Found tree branches comprise the splayed leg base, each one unique for a natural, asymmetrical form. Left untouched to preserve its timeworn finish, the little stool is ideal today as a tabletop pedestal, plant stand or sculptural object.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
