In our 20 years of collecting, we've never come across a late 18th/early 19th century stone top as distinctive as the one on this table. The undercut, decorative-edged stone has aged exquisitely over hundreds of years of use—it was likely used for incense as it would have resisted scorching. It appears that the stone top is considerably older than the separate cypress stand. A crack to the stone has been restored beautifully, adding to the richness of its character.
