This four-drawer writing desk once stood centerpiece in the office of a well-to-do professional of the late Qing-dynasty. Desks with drawers such as this didn't become popular in China until the 19th century, and were strongly influenced by Western designs. Finely crafted of northern elm (yumu), this desk has a classic design with two shallow drawers in the center and two larger, lockable drawers on either end. The rectangular top is supported by straight corner legs trimmed with a finely beaded edge and ending in simple hoof feet. A brass drop handle accents each of the drawers, anchored by charming cloud-form escutcheons.
Additional dimensions: height from floor to bottom of middle drawer 25"
height from floor to bottom of side drawers 21"
