The central pendant is a jade disc carved to resemble a Qing-dynasty coin often referred to as "cash." The coin bears the issuing era name for the Yongzheng emperor (AD 1709-1722). Used in Imperial China since 4th century BC, this form of coin is today considered a good luck charm and a powerful symbol of prosperity.
