Filled with burning coals, this 19th-century brass brazier once warmed the hands of a well-to-do person on a cold winter's night in northern China. Crafted of enameled brass, the rectangular brazier features a hinged handle and an intricately pierced lid with an abstract floral pattern. Painted with gilt pigments on black enamel, the sides are decorated with serene mountain landscapes and lattice-like diamond work. A keepsake from a bygone era, this petite brazier looks lovely accenting a bookcase or console table.
