Petite Gilt Box

This petite keepsake box is a charming example of Japanese lacquer art, or urushi. The box began with a round wooden substrate, finished by layer upon layer of glossy black lacquer. In the classic style of gold-against-black, the exterior is decorated with figures seated in intricate settings, framed by lattice-like borders and floral motifs.
