Hand-carved and lavishly pigmented, these gilt fragments originated as decorative elements of ornate Qing-dynasty furniture or architecture. Elevated by custom steel display mounts, each fragment is carved to a different mythical form - a fu dog lion, for protection, an embroidered ball, for friendship, and a phoenix, for prosperity and good fortune. Accentuated by underlayers of red lacquer, the gilt finishes of these fragments add bright color and iridescence to a bookcase or table arrangement.
