This early 18th century seal box showcases the delicate, feathery grain of jichimu, or "chicken-wing wood," a hardwood native to the island of Hainan and an extremely rare find today. The box is made in a classical Ming style and form, with all original brass throughout. The placement of the hardware reflects the austere refinement of an artist scholar of the time. This box would have been used to hold a personalized chop or seal, a tool used to mark, or "sign," a scholar's work.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
