A clean-lined interpretation of an ancient form, this footed basin was hand-carved by artisans in China's Shandong province. The mesmerizing pattern of zhenzhu is inherent to the stone, a conglomerate limestone extracted from Lake Tai in Jiangsu province. Speckled with almost painterly daubs of color, the sought-after stone was especially prized by scholars of the 16th through 18th centuries, earning a favored place at the calligraphy table among ink, brush, and inkstone.

Basin has been drilled at the center of the base for use as a planter.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
