Designed to hold burning incense, censer bowls have been used throughout China for thousands of years. Incense made from dried aromatic plants and essential oils would be burned within the home to cleanse interiors and honor ancestors during ritual prayer. This 19th-century porcelain censer likely once resided upon the family altar of a provincial Qing-dynasty home. Beautifully painted with a cobalt glaze, the blue and white censer bears a traditional design of serpentine dragons soaring through the skies towards a flaming pearl, an emblem of the sun, of the moon, of balance, and of power.

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
