This large, barrel-form birdcage dates to the early 20th century and is carefully assembled of thin bamboo rods fitted to a round bamboo base. The cage hangs from a large hook attached to the top, finely cast in the shape of a sinuous dragon. A central post textured with gravel provides a place to perch and a round cutout on the side allows the bird to come and go freely. The cage is complete with several accessories, including a footed brass dish and two porcelain cup for water and birdseed.
