Finely crafted with clean lines and dramatic height, these wooden birdcages were once home to the feathered pets of a Qing-dynasty aristocrat. Dated to the mid-19th century, the squared birdcages are carefully assembled of thin rods of darkly lacquered bamboo and set within a pine wood frame with four legs and carved spandrels. Each cage is adorned with a large endless knot tassel, recalling the many toys, charms, and accessories that once decorated the cage interior. Reminiscent of tall Chinese book lanterns, these delicate birdcages are fantastic collector's items and beautiful works of art.
