The Djenne people were one of the earliest tribes in Mali. Their achievements in adobe architecture resonate far and wide. Following in that tradition, their ceramic relics are treasured by their descendants and outside collectors. With distinctive interwoven abstract surface markings, a less than perfect rounded form and figurative relief carvings, this vessel epitomizes works in its class.
