Greenery Stone on Wooden Stand

Named for their expressive patterning suggestive of trees, grass, and other plantlike forms, greenery stones are a conglomerate mix of jadeite, moss agate, and serpentine, among other minerals. Quarried in China’s Liaoning province, the meditation greenery stones are typically displayed indoors and have been appreciated by Chinese scholars and artists since as early as the Yuan dynasty (1279–1368). We love this greenery stone for its unusual strokes and sweeps, like the brush strokes of a calligraphy painting, contrasted by a meandering field of dark mineral deposits that cloak the stone like a billowing storm cloud. A modern wooden mount complements the stone’s smooth appearance and evocative patterning.
