It's easy to imagine the original owner of this basket walking to market on a summer day with the arched handle slung over their arm. Used for carrying food or harvesting vegetables from the garden, this dark, woven basket is a beautiful example of Chinese basket-making. Basket making is an ancient and humble craft, but in the hands of a truly skilled weaver, willow branches, symbols of renewal and springtime, can be transformed into a truly beautiful work of art. Formed of darkened willow entwined with a twist weave, this shallow basket is imbued with a sense of balance and dynamic motion, and looks lovely in the home as a basket for ripe fruits or fresh bread.
