"Senkaku/Diaoyu" a unique kite by Chicago-based artist Michael Thompson, is crafted from a split bamboo frame covered with stretched muslin and a collage of paper and paint. The layers of black and white paint, over snippets of text, evoke the water surrounding the islands and blend into a grey whole which references the international dispute. Thompson’s kites incorporate found objects collected on trips to Asia including kimonos, obis, paintings, scrolls, drawings, and book pages, creating intricate, one-of-a-kind visual effects.

“Over the years, I’ve incorporated many pieces from PAGODA RED into my designs. Not only can they balance new furnishings (and often new construction) by feeling more established, but the pieces emanate a sense of rich history, often leaving you wondering where they were in a previous life. These beautiful pieces carefully hand-selected by the team at PAGODA RED, coupled with their unbelievable customer service, make them a must-have for any home.”
