Brass hardware sets off the warm glow of this fine-grained, 19th-century lacquered trunk, likely originally used to store clothing and personal items. The footing at its base was designed to protect contents from ground moisture and allow air to circulate beneath the box. Tongue and groove joinery finishes each side of the trunk, highlighting the chest's masterful construction.
