These 19th-century walnut tall back chairs were handmade by a gifted artisan from China’s Shanxi province, who personalized his work by painting his name "San Dou Tan" onto each. The rustic form hearkens back to classical Chinese furniture design but is shaped by the artist’s aesthetic sense, especially notable in the cusped spandrels tucked beneath the top rail and armrests. The arms are delicately curved, the spandrels are scalloped, and the finish has worn beautifully.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
