Topped with burning incense, spiritual figures, and offerings of food, this enchanting monumental coffer once played a central role in the ancestor worship of a Qing-dynasty home. Crafted of northern elmwood using mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques, the expansive coffer was designed to have a commanding presence within a room. Detailed carvings ornament the cabinet's seven drawers, curved legs, and ruyi apron, a motif offering blessings of good fortune and longevity. Placing the warm coloring of Chinese elmwood on full display, this grand coffer makes for a gorgeous centerpiece sideboard or buffet.
