This 19th-century storage coffer is expertly crafted of northern elm (yumu) using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery methods. The square-corner cabinet is built with two sets of doors that open to a large interior fitted with four drawers and a single shelf. The coffer is finished with a thin layer of red-brown lacquer and accented with full moon brass lock plates and matching square hinges. The clean-lined cabinet has minimal ornamentation, decorated only by geometric scrollwork carvings on the apron. Gently faded from years of use, this four door coffer adds rich texture to modern interiors as a sideboard or credenza.
