Pair of Copper Glazed Meiping Vases

Fired under the right conditions, copper-based glazes, which typically create green tones, can result in a beautiful orange-red. The volatile nature of copper, however, makes it difficult to achieve consistent results, making this pair of vases even more remarkable for its even, vibrant color. Emulating the traditional meiping vase form, contemporary ceramic artists in Beijing painted each vase with an exquisitely detailed design of lush foliage and flowers, expressive fu dogs, and a majestic dragon.
