Chicago-based artist Jan Pieter Fokkens uses his work as a means of processing the incomprehensible. Navigating the relationship between algorithmic abstraction and the tangible qualities of pattern and color, Fokkens meditates on how reality is mediated by digital image. Entitled "E0102-72.3," this vibrant drawing offers a representation of the supernova remnant E0102, located 190,000 light years away from Earth. Using optical data from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, Fokkens extracts the average color of each coordinate, and uses archival markers to represent it as a single line upon the photo paper. The result is a reductionist account of an unimaginable sight.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
