This Indian three-tier box was crafted in the early 20th century and originally used as a vanity chest or jewelry box. Etched with an elegant all-over floral motif, the brass box is swathed in a rich red pigment with a metallic sheen and dotted with pops of blue, white, and green on the blossoms. Like an accordion sewing box, the box hinges back when opened to reveal three stepped compartments supported by two back legs. The tiered box is clasped together with a forward facing latch and topped with a gracefully curved hinged handle.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.

Some oxidation to interior. Original key has been lost.
