This early 20th-century vessel emulates the full-bodied shapes and unusual glazing found in ancient ceramics. A thick brown glaze clings to the upper half of the jar, dripping to a stop and leaving the lower half mostly unglazed. Some glaze seems to be collected in the textured surface of the terracotta, indicating the vessel may have been dipped in glaze and then cleaned off, a technique still utilized by modern day sculptors. The unglazed ceramic exhibits some minor losses as well as a marble-like contrast of light and dark. What's left of the glaze is crackled in texture and dynamic in color.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
